Biomechanics Simulation Engineer

Boston Dynamics, a leading developer of high mobility robots and simulation software seeks a simulation engineer to develop and apply computer simulation to analyze human motion.

We are looking for someone who can create dynamic simulations of things that move. We simulate human motion in order to analyze biomechanics and the impact of equipment on human performance. We need you to create simulations, understand system dynamics and create control system software that enables the human model to perform task-level behaviors.

The position will involve validating simulations against data to extend or prove the range of applicability. The engineer may also write documentation or technical papers summarizing the application of simulation software.

We require a master's degree in engineering or computer science as well as extensive knowledge and experience of physics-based simulation and control system development techniques. Strong interpersonal, speaking and writing skills are also required. Additionally, experience is preferred in the following areas:

  • C, C++ programming
  • 3D graphics programming
  • Dynamic simulation
  • Servomechanism tuning
  • State machine-based control
  • Control algorithms for legged locomotion and biomechanical modeling of humans
  • Contact or collision modeling

Deputy Program Manager

Boston Dynamics, a leading developer of high mobility robots such as BigDog, PETMAN, and LittleDog as well as industry leading simulation software, DI-Guy, seeks a talented, creative and highly motivated Deputy Program Manager.

The Deputy Program Manager will work with the Program Manager at Boston Dynamics to provide expert management and systems engineering support to our larger and more complex R&D activities including robot and simulation development. The DPM will have a view from the top, participating in high level planning and management activities in order to help optimize the engineering execution of teams of 10-20 engineers.

To be successful you will need excellent engineering and organizational skills to help prioritize, track, and execute complex, interdisciplinary programs working with teams of talented engineers. You will need to be a superb communicator, work well with others, have a healthy appetite for hard work and a good sense of humor.

We require a BA/BS degree in a related technical field plus 2-5 years of relevant, progressive engineering management experience. Strong interpersonal, speaking and writing skills are required. We are looking for experience in at least several of the following areas:

  • Project Management (budget, schedule, milestones, deliverables and risk) for DoD-sponsored projects with budgets in the $1M-$10M range
  • Task Planning and prioritization for multi-disciplinary teams (ME, EE & SW) of 2-10 Engineers
  • Preparation of Project Budgets, Statements of Work, Work Breakdown Structures, and Schedules as well as Proposal Preparation, expert in MSProject and Excel
  • Project tracking using Earned Value Management
  • Subcontractor management
  • Preparation of Customer monthly/final reports and major design review presentations

Control Systems Engineer

We are looking for someone who can work as a key member of our multi-disciplinary team to design, build, test and deliver the most advanced mobile robots inhabiting the Earth. The position will also involve creating dynamic simulations of robotic systems for early stage testing and concept development.

To be successful you will need a track record of developing, modifying, debugging and testing real-time software for embedded control. In addition, you need to demonstrate technical excellence, creativity, hands-on experience, and the ability to work well with others, a healthy appetite for hard work and a good sense of humor.

We require a MS or PhD degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering or related discipline plus 3 or more years of relevant experience. A balance between analytic ability and practical implementation on hardware systems will be expected. Simulation experience is useful. You'll do well here if you really like thinking about how things move. Strong interpersonal, speaking and writing skills are required. We desire experience ranging from concept through build, test, debug redesign, production, and delivery. We are looking for experience in several of the following areas:

  • Implementing high-bandwidth feedback control in hardware
  • Control of multi-DOF systems
  • Familiarity with multi-body kinematics and dynamics
  • Sensing and state estimation
  • C/C++
  • Dynamic simulation

Serious Games Programmer

Boston Dynamics, a leading developer of high mobility robots, and the maker of BigDog, LittleDog, and other innovative machines, seeks an engineer to help create 3D graphics simulation & training software that is being used to train for the real thing: soldiers and marines headed to Afghanistan. Our tools leverage the company's bestselling DI-GuyT (www.diguy.com) realtime human simulation software.

Candidates must be US Citizens with a computer science, engineering, or equivalent degree and a 3-5 year track record of developing, testing, and debugging software in the realms of artificial intelligence, 3D graphics, GUI design, and/or simulation. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working with small groups of highly skilled developers, have high coding standards, and be able to efficiently execute assignments with minimal oversight.

You will be responsible for developing, testing, and debugging human simulation and training software. We are looking for experience in the following areas:

  • Computer animation, OpenGL, 3D graphics.
  • GUI design and Qt.
  • Artificial intelligence and Lua.
  • Realtime simulation and/or distributed simulation.
  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Must be willing to work on military/defense-oriented applications.
