Boston Dynamics takes the protection of your data and the security of our Stretch® robots (Stretch) and software seriously. Sensing the environment, making decisions on complex data, and transacting data over network links are fundamental to the effective functioning of advanced robots. Our robots are built from the ground up to keep such data secure. We believe that our commitment to your security and privacy should be a key reason for selecting Boston Dynamics and Stretch as a partner in your robotics applications.
We believe in rapid development to constantly improve robot performance. In order for us to find, understand and fix issues, and improve performance, Stretch and related applications collect the following data which may be transmitted by you to Boston Dynamics from time-to-time as either Service Logs or Performance Metrics.
We use Service Logs received from you to conduct technical analysis and make product improvements. Service Logs contain raw sensor data and details on how the robot interprets this data for the period captured by the log data. Service Logs may contain images captured by a robot’s onboard cameras to assist with fault diagnosis. Service Log images are used for diagnosing perception-related issues, which may include loss of localization, collision with objects, and falls. Service Log images may also be used for performance improvement.
Our product management and engineering teams use Performance Metrics to help measure the quality of your user experience, and better target our product improvement efforts. Our robots automatically create Performance Metrics. Performance Metrics do not contain personal information or images. They may include robot information such as:
How does Stretch secure the data it works with?
Please see our Stretch Security document.
Which data protection requirements do Boston Dynamics comply with?
Please see our Privacy Policy.
Who will have access to my data?
Access to your data will be limited to Boston Dynamics customer support staff and certain individuals working on improving the applicable product.
Does Boston Dynamics retain my data? Service Logs: If no longer needed to address your service request or support performance improvements, Service Logs are deleted six months after the upload date to Boston Dynamics, whether uploaded automatically or manually.
Performance Metrics: This data is retained for as long as it is necessary to support performance improvements.
Does Stretch require Internet access?
Yes. Stretch must be connected to the Internet to periodically transfer diagnostic data back to Boston Dynamics.
Under what circumstances is Stretch data transmitted to Boston Dynamics?
Service Logs and Performance Metrics: Regularly and automatically, whenever Stretch is connected to the Internet.
Can I inspect the data the robot sends to Boston Dynamics?
Service Logs: No. Service Logs contain details of Stretch’s internal systems and remains encrypted until examined by technicians at Boston Dynamics.
Performance Metrics: Yes. Performance metrics are made available through reports or dashboards provided by Boston Dynamics.
